Hamilton Jr. Cardinals Announce Coaching Staff for the 2025 Season

Hamilton, ON – The Hamilton Jr. Cardinals are pleased to announce their coaching staff for the 2025 season, led by new Manager Troy Black. The staff has been assembled under the leadership of Matt Ferreira, the recently appointed Director of Jr. Baseball Operations.

Troy Black brings extensive coaching experience to the team, highlighted by his success at Humber College, where he led the program to a .766 overall record (49-15) over three seasons. Under his guidance, Humber earned three consecutive OCAA silver medals (2021, 2022, 2023), and Black was named OCAA Coach of the Year in 2022. A former standout infielder at the University of Maine and a professional player in the Baltimore Orioles organization, Black is known for developing talent and fostering winning teams.

The Cardinals are excited to add Liam Sutherland as an Assistant Coach. Sutherland played two seasons with the Brantford Red Sox of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL), where he posted a career batting average of .303 with 37 RBIs and five home runs. A former standout at Humber College, Sutherland hit for a career .389 average, winning two OCAA Championships and earning OCAA Player of the Year honors. Sutherland also played at the University of Waterloo where he studied Recreation and Sports Business.

Also joining the staff as Assistant Coach is Luis Bernardo, who transitions to coaching after two seasons as the Cardinals’ starting catcher. Bernardo’s playing career spans six seasons in the Baltimore Orioles organization, where he reached the Class-A Advanced level with the Frederick Keys.

The Hamilton Jr. Cardinals, a 22U affiliate of the Hamilton Cardinals, compete in the Intercounty Baseball Association (ICBA). As part of the Hamilton Cardinals organization—a member of the historic Intercounty Baseball League (est. 1919)—the Jr. Cardinals offer young players a pathway to develop their skills, compete at a high level, and potentially earn a spot with the IBL Hamilton Cardinals.
