Hamilton Cardinals Sign Designated Hitter Matt Hilderbrandt

The Hamilton Cardinals are excited to announce the signing of former IBL All-Star designated hitter Matt Hilderbrandt.

Hilderbrandt, a 6’4”, 275-pound native of Lindsay, Ontario, joins the Cardinals after two standout seasons with the Welland Jackfish in 2021 and 2022, during which he earned All-Star honors both years. Over his IBL career, Hilderbrandt has posted a career .339 batting average, hitting 13 home runs and driving in 70 RBIs across 66 regular-season games.

Before his IBL success, Hilderbrandt excelled during his College career. He began his career at Cuyahoga Community College, leaving as the program’s all-time leader in home runs (20) and RBIs (99). He finished his collegiate career at Limestone University, adding 14 home runs and 41 RBIs over 77 games.

Cardinals owner Eric Spearin commented on the signing: “Most importantly, we’re grateful that Matt is healthy, as his well-being is what matters most. We’re pleased he has chosen the Hamilton Cardinals for his return to the IBL.”

“Hildy adds a strong offensive presence to our lineup with his ability to hit for both average and power. Adding a two-time IBL All-Star is exactly the kind of high-impact transaction we strive for. Beyond his on-field talent, he also brings infectious energy to our clubhouse.”
