Baycats eliminate Cardinals from IBL Playoffs
HAMILTON - The Hamilton Cardinals couldn't survive elimination on Tuesday night as the Barrie Baycats picked up an 11-9 victory advancing them to the Semi-Finals.
The game had back-to-back seven-run innings, which turned out to be the turning point of the game. The Cardinals put up seven runs in the sixth inning but it was the Baycats that turned around in the seventh with seven runs of their own.
The Cardinals refused to make it easy for their opponents. Laine Renaud and Luis Bernardo both contributed home runs during the sixth-inning rally that netted seven runs. Renaud's home run marked his second of the series. To stop the Cardinals' momentum, the Baycats turned to Brad Grieveson, and he delivered a pitching performance to keep the pesky Cardinals away. Grieveson pitched three and two-thirds innings and eventually secured the crucial win.
In total, a staggering 33 hits were recorded in the game, with Barrie amassing 18 and Hamilton tallying 15.
